History

Equity in Medicine began in 2018 after winning a grant from the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).

In 2019, we built a community to support and empower our members committed to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) & we hosted several high quality educational live chats.

In 2020, we became an independent group and continued to host our live sessions, including an Intersectionality panel, two Anti-Racism workshops, and a presentation on the Gender Pay Gap.

In 2021, we hosted a well-received inaugural conference, an educational session on Transgender Health, and collaborated with partners to host a panel on effective allyship.

In 2022, we partnered with Canadian Women in Medicine (CWIM) for our second hybrid conference. We established the Dr. Pauline Alakija Trailblazer award and announced the inaugural winner, Dr. Saroo Sharda.
